Describing South Tyrol, we’d probably characterise it as a healthy dose of mountain giddiness, a dash of freedom and a whole lot of culture – and joie de vivre! And the best part of it all is that the mountains of the Texelgruppe Nature Park as well as the spa town of Merano/Meran are easily reachable from the Hotel Hofbrunn in Rifiano/Riffian.

Go on a sightseeing tour of Merano/Meran or visit some of the picturesque villages in the adjacent valleys. Hike through the apple orchards in the valley and up into the mountains.

Here, in the Southern Alps, the possibilities are endless, and you can tailor your holidays to fit your needs. We’re more than happy to help you organise your excursion plans and lend you hiking poles and rucksacks free of charge. Together with Christoph, our senior manager, we arrange guided hikes twice a week.

If you like, leave your car in the parking area in front of our hotel and use public transport. So you can discover South Tyrol in a more relaxed and sustainable manner.

With the free Green Mobility Card, you can take advantage of the efficient public bus and train services throughout South Tyrol. Since Merano/Meran isn’t far off, walking to the spa town is easy.

Hiking isn’t just about embarking on an idyllic mountain adventure – it’s also a journey of self-discovery. Join Christoph on one of his twice-weekly excursions, when he’ll take you on a tour of his favourite spots in the mountains of South Tyrol. His summer hiking tours lead through apple orchards and vineyards and include wine tastings. Or more demanding tours to the mountain summits.

The Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle

With its 80 different garden landscapes and its “Touriseum” Museum of Tourism, Trautmansdorff Castle in Merano/Meran is where Empress Sissi of the Habsburg Imperial Family once resided. Marvel at its exhibitions and delight in the spellbinding sounds of international artists performing on the stage next to the lily pond in the garden. The world-renowned Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle are only a ten-minute drive from our Hotel Hofbrunn.

With the all-year-round sunshine tempting us outdoors, in autumn we set out on hiking and biking tours in a magnificent mountain setting amidst the golden vineyards. Or in the bracing spring mountain air, with the summits still covered in snow and the orchards and meadows just coming into bloom.

Let’s say it clearly: we love Meran! Strolling along its green promenades along the Passer river, its boutique shops lined up beneath the historic arches in the old town centre with its majestic palaces.

Meran also means its cafés, the stunning Tappeinerweg botanic trail, its cosmopolitan Italian verve and joie de vivre. From our hotel it doesn’t take long to reach this renowned spa town on foot!

Our 5-course Alpine-Mediterranean à la carte dinners start with fresh salads and appetisers from the buffet. Cheese platters, ice cream and dessert buffets round off the evening meal.
